The weather has turned around and we are seeing some calmer conditions here in the upper keys. We are starting to see some Mahi show up but not the mother load just yet. The fish we have found are nice though, averaging 20 pounds or so. There has been a good bite of Amberjack and sharks on the deep humps of late and some small Tunas cruising thru also.
On the bottom, we have been catching some nice black grouper which have been 25 to 30 pounders. The mutton snapper bite has been good and this full moon right now should really show even better numbers while they are spawning. We are catching a few others species too. Cobia are popping up a little and they seem to be hungry.
Inshore I am catching some snook, trout and jacks. The big Tarpon have started to show up and Rick Young Jr. recently caught his first poon. The fish weighed 70 pounds and fought pretty good. Nice job Rick. Other fishing options have been inshore patch reef trips where we have found some snapper and grouper, mackerel, African Pompano and plenty of Palometas which are similar to Permit and Pompano. It sure looks promising so get those travel plans together. Give us a call.
Thanks,
Capt. George
